Corsair Sabre RGB Champion Series Gaming Mouse Review

Don’t let the looks make you think it’s your average mouse. The Corsair Sabre RGB Pro Champion Series has the basic and creative features that esports professionals adore. 

Thanks to its unassuming design, the Corsair Sabre RGB Pro Champion Series goes beyond the average esports mouse. It’s light, offers strong hand support, allows DPI tweak settings, and a quick button combo. Thanks to its creative ideas and solid fundamentals, this gaming mouse is a noteworthy option among esports professionals. 

While it may look like a conventional wired mouse with 6-buttons, the Sabre RGB Pro comes with two large side buttons, a DPI cycle at the center column, two-click panels, and a scroll wheel. This is on top of its 1.38 x 2.72 x 5.03-inch body (HWD), matte black finish, and a plastic chassis with RGB lighting on the bottom plain. 

If you take a closer look, you’ll realize that this mouse isn’t really your average gaming mouse. In fact, it comes with Corsair’s three hash lighting system that indicates a DPI setting. This also works with the mouse’s on-the-fly DPI adjustment option. This can be done by holding the DPI cycle button and pressing either back and forth. 

You can also see the DPI reset that brings back the default DPI level. This feature is a worthy addition for gamers who are constantly tweaking their mouse speeds. With the design, the chassis doesn’t show signs of a gaming mouse. However, you’ll notice that it’s comfortable to hold for long hours. 

Its 2.43-ounce weight also helps add more comfort. This is significant since some brands make their mice smaller or simple force an ergonomic design to lower the weight. Also, the mouse comes with a superior Pixart PMW3392 sensor that can handle up to 18,000 DPI while staying accurate for 450 inches per second. 

While this is not a huge upgrade, however, it’s a significant addition if you think about the price. 

The Sabre RGB Pro comes with a “hyperpolling” feature that can reach up to 8000Hz. This is equivalent to 0.125 milliseconds of mouse movements. It’s almost equivalent to eight times the speed of a normal gaming mouse. The higher the report rate, the better it is to cut down small lag instances, resulting in faster and smoother cursor movements.

On the other hand, higher reporting comes with some conditions. In this situation, the 8000Hz reporting of the Sabre RGB Pro requires higher processing power compared to the standard 1000Hz on a regular mouse. This makes the feature attainable, but certain requirements must be met to make it work properly. 

The company suggests that this mouse should be paired with at least an Intel Core i7 9700-Series or AMD Ryzen 7 2700-Series to make the 8000Hz hyperpolling effective. Likewise, if you have a 4000Hz polling, the company suggests an Intel Core i5 9400 or an AMD Ryzen 2500. 

With that said, the mouse will work in any system, but the hyperpolling feature requires more powerful processors to really feel its performance. Moreover, don’t be surprised if this feature will not work on your Mac, which’s running on 2000Hz. It’s a shame since Corsair fully supports macOS devices. 

Furthermore, the requirements go beyond the CPU. You’ll eventually see and feel the effects of hyperpolling in PC games with higher frame rates. This means that you need to either upgrade your PC with a more powerful GPU along with a higher refresh rate gaming monitor. On the contrary, this feature requires a significant amount of cash for an upgrade, but the benefits aren’t very tangible. 

Here’s the good news. Corsair released an updated version of its iCue software along with the Champion Series. It’s currently one of the best PC configuration apps. It gives off a better look and feel. Thanks to the bigger mouse-map visualization. It has a workflow on your screen’s bottom part. 

This lets you create custom inputs and assign them to the Sabre Pro buttons. This is already familiar to long-term Corsair users, but it’s not really that hard to learn for beginners. 

In addition, the Sabre RGB Pro Champion Series from Corsair is an excellent gaming mouse despite its basic look. With that said, it includes excellent esports-friendly features along with an affordable price, comfortable design, strong sensor, and an inventive DPI tweaking feature. It’s a worthy purchase even if you’re not interested in its hyperpolling feature.
