Best Wireless Routers

LPGuard’s Best Mesh Routers In 2020

Mesh routers provide a fast, reliable internet connection in your entire home. Here are some of the best mesh routers in the market in 2020.

Linksys

Mesh routers use two or more connected devices. That means you can connect multiple WiFi sources that integrate into one uninterrupted network. Mesh routers are designed to cover your entire home with Wi-Fi. As a result, you’re like having three or five separate routers in your home, but they’re sharing a single Wi-Fi network.

Here’s another advantage. Modern mesh routers are easy to set up, negating dead spots and filling in the gaps within your home coverage. This lets you enjoy a Wi-Fi connection in every corner of your home, backyard, and garage.

With this in mind, Mesh Wi-Fi systems are more expensive compared to range extenders. It’s also more expensive than a single-point or stand-alone wireless router. Fortunately, mesh routers are getting more affordable, as most brands are giving big discounts.

Make sure to check out our list of the best mesh routers in the market today.

Netgear Orbi AC1200

The best value mesh router

Cnet

The Netgear Orbi AC1200 is the most affordable Wi-Fi mesh system. Likewise, it’s a three-piece system that consists of a router and two satellite nodes. All-in-all, they provide up to 4,500 square feet of Wi-Fi coverage.

Moreover, the Orbi AC1200 only measures 2.7 x 4.1 x 4.1 inches (HWD). The router node features two gigabit LAN ports. One for WAN, and the other for Ethernet. It also has a LED status light, power jack, reset and sync buttons.

Furthermore, it’s a dual-band system capable of up to 400Mbps on the 2.5Ghz band and 866Mbps in the 5GHz band. It also supports MU-MIMO simultaneous data streaming and direct-to-client signal transmissions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a 5GHz backhaul band.

In addition, the router and nodes are operated by a 710MHz quad-core CPU. Also, the router has an added boost with 512MB of RAM and 256MB of flash memory. Likewise, all three components come with two internal antennas.

Asus ZenWiFi AX

Best Wi-Fi 6 System

Cnet

Let’s get down right to the core. The Asus ZenWifi is probably the best router Asus has produced. With that being said, it’s one of the best mesh and best Wi-Fi 6 routers, in our opinion. If you want to try the ZenWiFi AX, the router is widely available online.

Moreover, the ZenWiFi AX is capable of providing internet coverage of up to 2,475 sq. ft. Unfortunately, the single router isn’t available in some countries. It’s important to note that this particular model is expensive even with the standards of Wi-Fi 6 routers.

However, it boasts an excellent combination of performance and features. It supports tri-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) on the 2.4GHz and two 5.0GHz bands. All-in-all, it provides a speed of up to 6600Mbps or 6.6Gbps.

With this speed, it still goes beyond the speed of current routers that use the 802.11 ac Wi-Fi and faster than most Wi-Fi 6 routers.

Netgear Orbi AX6000

Best performing mesh router

Cnet

The Netgear Orbi AX6000 is the fastest mesh router. It’s just amazing. It’s a two-piece, triband system with Wi-Fi 6 support. With that being said, it’s the fastest and the most remarkable mesh router in the market.

It features simple network management and an app-based setup. Moreover, it supports Alexa and Google Assistant. Here’s a little secret. The high-end Orbi system is often overkilling for most users. That’s especially the case if your internet connection doesn’t reach 500Mbps.

Furthermore, the Orbi AX6000 is our top pick as much as speed is concerned. Some tests even recorded download speeds of up to 871Mbps at close range. But when tested at a distance of 75 feet, the speed fell significantly to just about 666Mbps.

If you’re not impressed with that speed and that range, I don’t know what will.

Eero Pro 6

Best mesh Wi-Fi if you have a big home

Cnet

Eero Pro 6 is Amazon’s first mesh Wi-Fi system. It offers good wireless coverage, and it even doubles as a home automation hub. While it comes with some of the rare features, it’s easy to manage and set up.

Moreover, it features the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology with some home automation hub capabilities thanks to the Zigbee radio support. It has three modern nodes that offer up to 6,000 square feet of Wi-Fi coverage.

This particular model delivers excellent throughput performance. Likewise, the nodes measure 2.1 x 5.3 x 5.3 inches (HWD). More importantly, each node offers up to 2,000 square feet of wireless coverage. One node serves as the main router, while the other two are mesh nodes. When you put them together, it’s almost overkill for your home networking needs.

Nest WiFi

Best overall

SlashGear

The Nest WiFi mesh router from Google is faster and more skillful than ever. Just about five years ago, the industry for routers was dominated by Linksys, TP-Link, Asus, and Netgear. Google wasn’t even on the map. However, in 2019, Google claimed to be the top-selling router, thanks to its Google Mesh WiFi system.

Fast forward today, Google launched its more powerful Nest WiFi system. The Nest model features a variety of configurations starting at $169 with 25% better coverage compared to the previous Google WiFi system.

Just like every mesh system, the Nest WiFi isn’t a modem. You need to plug it into your existing modem. However, unlike the Eero, Nest WiFi doesn’t work in “bridge” mode. LEt’s not talk about too much technical stuff.

Overall, the Nest WiFi offers consistent fast speeds than Google WiFi, Eero Pro, and even the Netgear Orbi. Unfortunately, the Nest WiFi doesn’t come with a dedicated wireless backhaul band. Instead, it relies on the traditional 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band systems for both connections.
